Love is not only something you feel, it is something you do.-David Wilkerson
Valentine’s Day is almost here, everyone! What are your plans for the day? I’ll be working during the day, but my husband and I always try to have a special Valentine’s lunch date. We have found that restaurants are MUCH too busy for our liking during dinner hours, but lunchtime hours are usually not bad. That has become our tradition for the past several years, and we have come to look forward to it every year!
As I have been looking forward to this week, I’ve also been thinking a lot about people who might be in need of a little extra love this year. Recently, a family in my neighborhood suffered a personal tragedy, and I’ve been thinking about them constantly. I wanted to do a little something special for them, just to let them know they are loved. I bet you can think of some people in your life who might need some extra love this week also. Below are some ideas for small and simple ways you can show love to those around you.
1-Valentine Cookies-Everyone loves a little sugar on Valentine’s Day! Cookies are a great way to show you care. I use this recipe and they are delicious! Plus, it’s fun to use your creativity to frost and decorate!
2-Flowers-Your local grocery store is probably bursting with blooms this week. There are a variety of price points to fit your budget, and so many different beautiful combinations! Flowers are something that I don’t usually buy for myself, so when I get them as a gift I really appreciate it! Pick up some flowers with your groceries this week, and find someone to surprise them with.
3-Heart Attack-Have you heard of this before? This is a great activity for kids. How it works: You cut out a bunch of paper hearts and write sweet messages on them. Then, you tape all the hearts to someone’s door, “attacking” them with love! You can see how it’s done here.
4-Love Note-If heart attacks aren’t your thing, a simple note would be great also. Jot down a few words about this person, letting them know they are loved and appreciated. Kind words go a long way!
5-Act of Service-A small act of service can mean the world to someone. Shovel their driveway for them on a snowy day, offer to watch their kids while the adults go on a date, or invite them to your house for dessert one night this week. There are so many ways to serve, and I know they will all be appreciated!
I hope these ideas helped! There are so many people all around us who need some extra love. Now get out there and spread kindness. Happy Valentine’s Day!
